Isaiah 53:5

He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. – Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

So many years prior, Isaiah had the revelation of what was to come. Jesus fulfilled these revelations in his life as he became the sacrificial lamb, dying once for all– for all who will believe. From this we can be healed of the crisis sin puts us in.

This bit of scripture matters still because Christ died not just for those people back then, but for everyone throughout time that will receive this gift of redemption.

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.

So many times I try to fix problems or figure things out when I should be still and listen for God’s wisdom to come into mind.

I don’t believe this verse advocates just sitting around and waiting for something to happen, but rather as we judge a situation/idea/opportunity/… we should not make sense of it merely from our understanding. We should use God’s wisdom in His word as the ruler (consider both meaning or ruler… ruler = someone with authority, ruler = measuring stick… but the latter is apropos).  Taking this idea a step further, as we pray, surround ourselves with Godly counsel, and consume God’s wisdom from his Word, we can better fulfill the calling of this verse.
